Challenge Cup ties fall foul to weather


Several Challenge Cup third round ties have fallen victim to the weather. Here’s the latest update from across the prestigious competition…

Sheffield Eagles’ trip to Siddal on Saturday has been postponed. Although, the two sides are hoping to meet on the Sunday, at Chevinedge, with a kick-off time of 2:30pm.

Newcastle Thunder also confirmed that their tie against National Conference League Division 1 side Stanningley has been hit with a frozen pitch.

Like Sheffield, the sides are hoping to meet on Sunday at the Arthur Miller Stadium.

Elsewhere, there are five Challenge Cup ties taking place on Saturday.

London-based Wests Warriors travel to Widnes Vikings with a 3pm kick-0ff.

League 1’s Midlands Hurricanes face Orrell St James at 2:30pm, while London Broncos host Whitehaven at 3pm.

Having defeated Cornwall in the previous round, NCL’s Rochdale Mayfield travel to Leigh Miners Rangers. And finally, Westgate Common host Hunslet ARLFC.

Sunday’s fixtures plus coverage

BBC Sport will show Thatto Heath Crusaders against North Wales Crusaders on Sunday March 12, as the St Helens community club look to repeat their success in 2019.

They defeated North Wales 16-14 in the fourth round, which was the longest cup run enjoyed by a community club in recent years.

The tie will be shown on the BBC Sport website, BBC iPlayer and BBC Red Button, with kick-off at 12.30pm.

The mouth-watering clash between Championship heavyweights Featherstone and Halifax will also be streamed live by The Sportsman.

The game at Post Office Road takes place on Sunday March 12, kick-off 3pm.
