Fullback with the ‘loosest lips in the Premiership’ re-signs : PlanetRugby

Saracens have confirmed that fullback Alex Goode has signed a new deal with the Premiership side, after he leaked the news himself.

Goode will extend his record as Saracens’ most capped player, with 357 appearances, after signing a new two-year contract with the side.

Saracens’ communications team took aim at the fullback in a video confirming his re-signing, which shows Goode leaking the news during a virtual press conference.

“I have re-signed with Sarries,” Goode said. “The social media department have been rubbish at announcing it, you know these social media guys, they are always trying to outdo each other.”

The video includes quotes from teammates and coaches before Goode reveals that he had signed an extension with the communications team taking further shots at Goode, in jest, using famous quotes before congratulating the fullback on his new deal.

Goode excited to be staying

Goode has enjoyed an incredibly successful career at Saracens, winning five Premiership titles and three Champions Cups.

He burst onto the scene in 2008 and has been a fan favourite for well over a decade.

“Saracens is in my blood so I’m really excited to be staying here for another couple of seasons,” Goode told the club’s official website.

“I’m incredibly proud to represent this club, the memories that we’ve made will last a lifetime, and I really believe there are more to come as well.”

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall expressed his delight in retaining the 35-year-old’s services for another two seasons.

“We are thrilled that Goodey will be continuing his incredible career at the club,” he said.

“He continues to play consistently well week in week out on the one hand and is enormously supportive and helpful to our younger players on the other.

“As our playing squad continues to evolve, Alex’s experience and know-how will allow many of the next generation to accelerate their development.”

Goode will earn his 358th appearance for Saracens this weekend as the club take on Northampton Saints in the Premiership semi-finals.
