Northampton Saints’ attempt at virtual reality cricket ends badly : PlanetRugby

Ashes fever has been sweeping across England and the offices of Northampton Saints were no exception.

Ahead of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, the Midlands outfit decided to try their hand at virtual reality cricket.

Attack coach Sam Vesty was keen to don the headset and played a lovely drive before setting off for a run.

However, they probably didn’t think the activity through, given that Vesty was in the middle of an office where tables, chairs and people resided.

With him not knowing where he was going, it felt inevitable it would end with him tripping over something and, of course, he crashed into one of the tables and fell over.

Fortunately, he wasn’t hurt and instead it created a very funny moment which was captured on video.

It also went viral in the cricketing world as England fan group the Barmy Army got hold of it and put it on their page, with the caption: “Watch until the end.”

When the BBC’s Test Match Special Twitter account asked for permission to use it, it gave Andy Goode a chance to cheekily ask for something in return.

TMS asked: “Hi @AndyGoode10, we love this. Would you be happy for us to share this across our accounts with full credit to you? Cheers!”

Goode responded: “Of course for 2 tickets to Old Trafford in hospitality on Wednesday please!”

Vesty’s club also saw the video and stated: “Ashes fever has taken over in the coaches office,” while Rugby Inside Line said: “This is too funny! Not sure whether this or the nose pick on national television is worse?!”

If it is the last time the Saints’ attack coach tries his hand VR cricket, we wouldn’t blame him, but equally it has given the world a good laugh. Poor Sam.
