It was a good weekend for Taunton St Andrews’ senior sides with all four winning their matches and the first team climbing off the foot of Premier One table when they beat fellow strugglers Frocester away, writes Richard Walsh.
After being put into bat, the Saints slipped to 43 for three before recovering to reach 324 all out in 49.2 overs. The recovery was down to Cam Harding, who made 134 off 107 balls with 20 fours and three sixes, and James Rew who hit a run a ball 70 with 10 fours and a six, the pair adding 171 for the fourth wicket. Later in the order, Thomas Rew chipped in with 43 and Josh Thomas made 21.
When Frocester replied, they looked well placed at 156 for three, before off spinner Archie Vaughan produced a remarkable spell in which he claimed four wickets in eight balls, which gave Saints the initiative and ultimately led to their victory, Vaughan ended with four for 28 from his nine overs, while Jack Harding claimed two for 16.
Saints Seconds were at home to Long Sutton in the Somerset League Premier Division, where batting first, the visitors were all out for 186 in 42.3 overs, of which Ed Sparrow made 54, while for the hosts Toby Pattemore took three for 33.
In reply, the home side reached 190 for four in 42.5 overs, Martin Jenkins carrying his bat to remain unbeaten on 83 off 138 balls with 13 fours, while his brother Steven ended not out 38 the pair sharing an unbroken fifth wicket partnership of 78.
In SCL Division Four the Saints A hosted Purnells who were all out for 125 in 38 overs, which they then reached in 27 overs for the loss of two wickets.
Saints B team were in action against West Monkton Third XI where batting first the visitors posted 241 for eight from their 40 overs, of which Matt Pringle made 64, Harry Revelledo 35 and lower in the order young Will Neale hit an unbeaten 36 while Matt Mason Walshaw remained not out 30. For Monkton Muhammad Sohail was the pick of the bowlers with three for 36.
When the home side replied, they were bowled out for 160 in 31.4 overs, Ian McCarthy top scoring with 30 while Shaun Locke hit 26, while Andrew Batstone ended with three for 16.
