Stand-out performances as Somerset’s under 18s taste success

THE Somerset Pathway Under 18 teams have featured some stand-out performances, the pick of which were from Ben Church who made 163 and Lola Harris who claimed for six wickets for 12 runs. 

The Girls Under 18 played Wiltshire in Group 5 of the ECB One Day Cup and batting first, Somerset posted 274 for eight from their 50 overs, Megan Driskel and Brooke Whittaker adding 115 for the third wicket before the latter was out for 58 which came off 66 balls with seven fours.

Driskel then added 54 for the fourth with Alice Bird who retired on 39 balls, after which she went onto make 80 which came off 87 balls with nine fours and two sixes.

When Wilshire responded they were bowled out for 180 in 43 overs, Lucy Ashton claiming three for 22 and Helen Carter three for 38.

Somerset Girls Under 18s played Hampshire in the quarter finals of the ECB KO Cup who batting first were all out for 108 in 37.3 overs, Lola Harris taking six for 12 off 10 overs, five of which were maidens.

In reply Somerset reached 109 for four thanks to an unbeaten 53 from Emma Phillipson off 65 balls with seven fours.

Against Dorset in the ECB Girls Under 18 County One Day Cup Somerset posted 285 for nine, Lilly Hawkins making 73 off 98 balls with 12 fours, adding 135 for the second wicket with Annabel Lamb who hit 50 off 69 deliveries with five fours. Lower in the order Brooke Whittaker made 66 off 47 balls with seven fours and a six.

Dorset were limited to 266 for five giving Somerset victory by 19 runs.

Somerset Boys Under 18s hosted Cornwall who posted 262 for eight from their 50 overs, Harry Deering claiming three for 54 and Lachlan Rice two for 42.

When the hosts batted they were all out for 237 in 40.2 overs, Ben Mason top scoring with 74 off 61 balls with 11 fours and one six, the pair adding 58 for the second wicket, while Harvey Richards hit an unbeaten 28.

In the away match against Cornwall at Helston in the ECB County Cup Somerset chose to bat and made 238 all out in 47.2 overs, Fin Kelsey making an unbeaten 105 from 115 balls with 10 fours, while Lachlan Rice hit 42.

The hosts in reply were bowled out for 182, Oscar Coleman taking four for 30.

Against Hampshire at home Somerset Under 18s made 330 all out in 49.5 overs, of which Ben Church hit 163 off 136 balls with 19 fours and two sixes

and Rishabh Shimpi made 55 off 58 balls.

Hampshire were bowled out for 149 in 27.5 overs, Matt Whalley claiming four for 11.
