Cumbrian rugby league player charged with sexual assault


A CUMBRIAN rugby league player has been charged with sexual assault.

Dion Aiye, 35, has been charged with the offence, which is alleged to have taken place in May. He will appear at Workington Magistrates’ Court on November 18.

Aiye, of Queen Street, Whitehaven, was suspended from his position at Whitehaven Rugby League in May.

The club issued a statement at the time, saying Aiye had been suspended ‘with immediate effect’ following an incident.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: “Dion Aiye, 35, of Queen Street, Whitehaven, has been charged with sexual assault and bailed to attend Workington Magistrates’ Court on November 18, 2024.”

Whitehaven Rugby League declined to comment.
