Jofra Archer was forced into further rest after another washout in England’s T20 World Cup preparations.

The Sussex pace bowler was rumoured to sit out the third warm up against Pakistan on Tuesday but the match was cancelled due to rain.

England beat Pakistan at Edgbaston in their only match so far, with Archer returning to take two wickets for 28 runs in his first game since March.

He has been hampered by injuries in recent years having suffered with problems with his right elbow since 2021.

His return at Edgbaston was his first England game on home soil since 2020. He took one wicket from six overs on his return to Sussex’s second XI earlier this month.

Miserable scenes in Cardiff followed a wash-out at Headingley in the series opener.

England managed a 23-run victory at Edgbaston, but the latest frustration at Sophia Gardens came just a week before their June 4 World Cup opener against Scotland in Barbados.

Both teams now head to The Kia Oval for the series finale on Thursday ahead of travelling to the World Cup.

Sussex kick off their own T20 campaign as the Vitality Blast season begins against Gloucestershire on Friday before heading to Cardiff themselves on Sunday.
