Barrow coach Paul Crarey has confirmed the Raiders will be without their hooker Josh Wood for up to two months due to injury.

Wood left the field in the opening stages of last Sunday’s 36-16 defeat to Sheffield at Craven Park. The game also marked his 100th career appearance.

Further examination has determined that he will be out between four and eight weeks.

Meanwhile, prop Sam Brooks has worked his way back to full fitness. However, the Scotland international won’t make the trip to his former club Swinton this weekend.

Crarey said: “We’re eating into our squad early this year

“We were probably very lucky last year with our injuries, and this year at the start we’ve not been so lucky.

“Our medical team are doing really well with the players and are on the ball.

“Josh (Wood) is a tough kid, and hopefully it heals pretty well. With his attitude, it’ll hopefully only be a four-week injury rather than eight.”

More on Barrow

Barrow currently sit second bottom in the Championship table. The Raiders have lost their first two games of the season against Toulouse and Barrow.

The Cumbrian club made a number of signings over the off-season. They signed experienced forwards Greg Burke and Jack Wells from Super League side Salford.

Local youngsters Rio-Osayomwanbo Corkill and Ellis Archer joined Barrow from Super League champions St Helens.

Barrow also signed Wales international prop Ben Evans as well as veteran Championship centre Greg Worthington.

The Raiders added more to their Cumbrian contingent with the signings of Connor Saunders, Luke Broadbent and Andrew Bulman.

Barrow will look to get their first win of 2023 when they travel to Swinton on Sunday afternoon, 3pm kick-off.
