Bishops Hull Cricket Club played Wedmore in the Baker Cup – Davies Bishop Trophy final at Staplegrove earlier this week, and as the holders, they were full of confidence to retain the trophy.

After being put in, the Bishops Hull openers set the tone for the game by scoring 17 off the first over and carried on throughout the innings, hitting the ball to all parts of the ground, to reach 202 for eight from their 20 overs.

Josh Chanter scored 80, while team captain Matt Chanter made a rapid 44.

Wedmore’s best bowler was Martyn Boley who took four for 42, including three wickets in the last over.

When they responded, Wedmore were never in the hunt due to steady bowling and excellent fielding by Bishops Hull and reached only 127 for six from their allotted overs, giving the holder victory by 75 runs.

For Wedmore, captain Sam Tucker batted most of the innings for an unbeaten 45 and Ian Bishop was the pick of the Hull bowlers, ending with two for 22.

This was a fine all-round performance as Bishops Hull retained their trophy.
