Keep up to date with the latest injury news in Casualty Ward, this week including Lachlan Coote, Wigan, Leeds and Wakefield.
Coote blow
Hull KR full-back Lachlan Coote was forced from the field just seven minutes in to their 28-0 win over Huddersfield on Friday.
Speaking to Hull Live, Robins coach Will Peters said of Coote: “It’s his hamstring. I don’t think it’s too bad. Any hammy isn’t good. I think a couple of weeks.”
Earlier last week, Hull KR confirmed a huge injury blow to influential half-back Jordan Abdull, who will miss up to six weeks of action with a quad injury.
Marshall latest
Winger Liam Marshall was a notable absentee from the teamsheet in Wigan’s 14-10 defeat at Hull on Thursday.
Speaking to Wigan Today after the game, Warriors coach Matt Peet said: “Marshy was carrying an injury up until the international week. We thought the break might be adequate rest for him to recover but he needed this week as well.”
Leeds half-backs ruled out
Leeds are down on troops in the half-back positions.
Speaking ahead of Friday’s defeat to Salford, Leeds coach Rohan Smith confirmed that they would be without Aidan Sezer ‘for a few weeks’ with a dead leg.
Youngster Jack Sinfield filled the void left by Sezer against Salford. However, he failed a late head injury assessment during that game, ruling him out for Friday’s trip to Wigan.
Wakefield’s double blow
The Super League strugglers have suffered a couple of blows over the last week or so.
Former England international Reece Lyne is likely to miss up to a month of action with a calf strain. He didn’t play in their 32-18 defeat at Warrington on Friday.
During that game, Trinity lost utility back Liam Kay, who was forced off the field with injury. His timeframe has yet to be revealed.
It’s not all bad news for Wakefield though. Samisoni Langi could return for Thursday’s home clash with Hull, whilst new signing Luke Gale could make his debut against his former club.
Castleford star set for spell on sidelines
Speaking ahead of last week’s 30-6 defeat to Leigh, Castleford coach Andy Last confirmed that the Tigers will be without winger Greg Eden for around a month with a calf injury.
Last said that outside-back Mahe Fonua could possibly be back for Friday’s game against Catalans after being on compassionate leave.
Update on Huddersfield forward
The Giants were without prop Matty English for Friday’s 28-0 defeat at Hull KR due to concussion which occurred in training that week.
If he returns against Leigh on Friday, it will depend on which day he suffered the concussion last week. Players must now pass a 12-day return to play protocol before playing again after suffering the concussion.
Salford stars sidelined
Scotland international Ryan Brierley sustained an eye injury in their 22-12 win at Leeds on Friday. He passed a head injury assessment but his eye injury is likely to keep him out of Saturday’s game at St Helens.
Meanwhile, Red Devils coach Paul Rowley revealed earlier last week that Ken Sio will be out for up to a month with an ankle injury he suffered whilst falling down a pot hole on the club’s training pitch.
Warrington man close to returning
Promising outside-back Connor Wrench is nearing a return to the field after recovering from an ACL injury he suffered last August.
Speaking ahead of Friday’s win over Wakefield, coach Daryl Powell said the centre was ‘around 10 days away’ from being available to play.
Meanwhile, Powell provided an update on Daryl Clark after their win over Trinity. The experienced hooker has a chance of returning against Hull KR on Friday, or failing that, he will definitely be back for their Challenge Cup tie at Catalans the following week.
Leigh forward could return this week
Leigh coach Adrian Lam said that Fiji powerhouse Ben Nakubuwai was 50-50 for the Castleford game and ‘probably could have played’, but they ultimately decided to not risk him.
The Fijian front-rower could return for Leigh’s trip to Huddersfield this Friday night.
Wellens provides latest on Saints duo
The champions will be without star centre Mark Percival for up to six weeks with a hamstring injury, coach Paul Wellens has confirmed.
The Saints boss also said there’s an indefinite timeframe on forward Sione Mata’utia, who continues to seek specialist advice after suffering his concussion at Wigan on Good Friday, his second head injury in a short space of time.
Wellens said that Mata’utia is recovering well and his symptoms have subsided considerably since Good Friday.
