THE leader of Warrington Borough Council has joined MPs and other council leaders to discuss the importance of rugby league.

Councillor Hans Mundry joined leaders from across the north of England for a roundtable discussion on the impact of the sport on northern communities.

The roundtable, convened by the Mayor of Salford, Paul Dennett, was also attended by Tony Sutton, the CEO of the Rugby Football League.

Councillor Mundry represented Warrington and helped with discussions surrounding the impact of rugby league and what the northern leaders would like to see from a national rugby league strategy.

“As the Government is looking to increase access to sport, now is the time for a collective movement highlighting the cultural, health, and wellbeing benefits of rugby league.

“The discussion I had alongside other leaders highlighted how we can use our collective voice to call for further investment into the sport, both from the Government and funding bodies, to protect and enhance rugby league.

“We will keep on working together to ensure that rugby league gets the national recognition it deserves.”
