AN Ashes cricket hero will be helping a village sports club break new ground later this month.
Martley Cricket Club are hosting their first An Evening With event at the Tap and Run bar in their new pavilion on Friday, January 17.
And their first guest will be Ashley Giles MBE, currently the CEO of Worcestershire County Cricket Club.
It will be 20 years in 2025 since the iconic Ashes win against Australia, some say the greatest Test series of all time, and Giles was one of the stars.
Martley club president Dave Bradley said: “We are really pleased Ashley has accepted our invitation and we look forward to a very entertaining evening as he recalls highlights, not just of that 2005 series, but his long career in Test cricket and also talking about the current cricketing landscape.”
There are still a few tickets remaining at £25 each to include a hot supper.

And another sporting legend will be heading there for the first England Six Nations rugby match against Ireland on Saturday, February 1.
Former Worcester Warriors and England star Chris Pennell will be doing a Q&A ahead of the match, which will be part of a double bill shown live at the Tap & Run, and it is free to attend.
Dave added: “We hope this is the first of many such events and with our new pavilion bar we have the perfect facility to host such events.”
