HADLEIGH & Thundersley kept their survival hopes alive with an entertaining two run win at Hornchurch.

Hadleigh were put into bat after losing the toss and scored 224/8.

Jack Wagstaff top scored with 72 while fellow opener Sam Handley added 43 as the duo put on 102 for the first wicket.

Nick Gibb, who batted at number three, scored 38, before Hornchurch fell just short in reply.

Oliver Smith took 4/33 with the ball for Hadleigh including the match-winning wicket while Ethan Rogers and Louis Poynter both claimed two wickets as Hornchurch were dismissed for 222.

The exciting win means second from bottom Hadleigh are just one point behind Loughton, who sit just above the relegation zone, with one game left of the Essex League Premier Division season.

In Division One, second placed Billericay continued their push for promotion with a five wicket win at Orsett & Thurrock.

Orsett were dismissed for 84 after deciding to bat first with Robert Rayner taking 6/36.

In reply, Billericay made it home for the loss of five wickets with Rowan Elliott scoring 37 not out.

The win kept Billericay 10 points clear of third placed Upminster with just one game to go.

In Division Two, champions Old Southendian & Southchurch beat Goresbrook by 108 runs.

Southendian scored 246/5 with Ahsan Yousaf hitting 105 while skipper Max Craddock added 43 before Goresbrook were bowled out for 138.

Joe Madren took 3/6 in just 10 balls for Southendian.

Elsewhere, fifth placed Westcliff were beaten by 68 runs against Aztecs.

Aztecs chose to bat first and scored 365/3 before Westcliff were dismissed for 297.

Skipper Joe Robbins led the way with 83 while Naeem Amin added 68.

In Division Three, fourth placed Leigh on Sea suffered a two wicket defeat to Newham.

Leigh scored 272 in their innings with Sevriano Cupido hitting 80, Jon Edwards 47 and Toby Turner 40 before Newham made it home for the loss of eight wickets.

Aamir Shaukat (3/41) and Mohit Jain (3/64) were the pick of Leigh’s bowlers.

Eighth placed Wickford are 11 points above the drop zone after an impressive two wicket win against West Essex, who are third.

West Essex scored 223 after being put into bat before Wickford reached the required total for the loss of eight wickets, thanks to a brilliant 112 not out from Frankie Mckenna.

Already relegated Benfleet lost by 110 runs against Stanford le Hope.

In Division Four, sixth placed Southend & EMT lost by six wickets at Frenford.

Southend scored 174 with Dean Waller hitting 76 before the hosts made it home for the loss of four wickets.
