Dragons announce ‘unique’ partnership with darts champion ‘Iceman’ Price : PlanetRugby

Dragons RFC have announced an ‘exciting and unique’ partnership with former PDC World Darts Championship winner Gerwyn Price.

The 2021 world champion hung up his rugby boots in 2014 to take up a career in darts and has taken the sport by storm since.

Gerwyn Price and Dragons partnership

Price, aka ‘Iceman’, is a long-standing Dragons supporter and former rugby player himself and will now don the team’s logo on his shirt.

The deal will see Price sport the Dragons logo on the back of his darts shirt while the Dragons will, in turn, support him with the Iceman’s logo featuring on the arm of the club’s new home, away, and European jersey this season.

Price is a former hooker who played for Markham RFC, Neath and Cross Keys and had a short stint with Glasgow Warriors.

“It’s fantastic to link up with Dragons. I’d have liked to have come down here and played for a few seasons, so it’s nice to be involved in this way and really show my support for the team,” Price said in a statement on the Dragons’ official website.

“It’s always been one of my favourite clubs, and being a Gwent man, it’s great to see my logo on the playing jersey and vice versa.

“I’ll be proud to have Dragons on my shirt this season. It’s important to me to show my support for my local team, and hopefully, we’ll both have a successful 12 months.

“I’ve always had a warm welcome at Rodney Parade, enjoy seeing the players, and we had some fun with the darts tournament earlier this season. This partnership is a great way of me continuing to be involved and really showing my support.”

Love of Gwent rugby

Commercial director at Dragons, Jonathan Westwood, added: “I’ve always had a strong personal affinity with Gezzy [Gerwyn Price] through our time at Cross Keys, so it’s great for us to continue his love of Gwent rugby.

“He is a fantastic follower of the Dragons, a real part of the Dragons Family, with his visit to our training base earlier this season attracting over a quarter of a million views on social media alone.

“He is a regular visitor to Ystrad Mynach, and Dai Flanagan has also been really welcoming to Gezzy, with them being former teammates from Wales age grade.

“We’ve spoken about showing our support for each other and so are thrilled that our logo will be on his shirt, alongside some of our partners such as Nathan Jenkins at Valley Water, an influential member of the Dragons Family.

“We look forward to developing our reciprocal brand awareness and partnership and we wish Gezzy all the best at the World Matchplay this weekend. We can’t wait to welcome him back down to Rodney Parade this season.”

The Dragons kick off their United Rugby Championship campaign against Edinburgh on October 21.

They have been drawn in Pool 1 of the Challenge Cup, with their opener against Oyonnax taking place on December 9.

Price will don his new shirt in Blackpool this weekend.
