The hype for the Rugby World Cup is building rapidly, and some brilliant adverts are being launched for the tournament in France, with Wallabies boss Eddie Jones starring in two hilarious videos.

Rugby Australia released the two television commercials featuring the head coach with the campaign aimed at encouraging their fans to get behind the Wallabies at the Rugby World Cup.

The two brilliant adverts sport the tagline “Where there’s a Wallaby, there’s a way”, playing on the narrative of the Australians as underdogs for the tournament.

Proving dads wrong

The first commercial depicts Wallabies coach Eddie Jones doorknocking in the community.

At one house, a father lists off the reasons why the Wallabies can’t win the Rugby World Cup.

Jones is pictured at the door with his trusty notebook taking down the father’s critiques.

When asked by the son who the criticism is for, Jones quips, “The Wallabies. We love proving dads wrong.”

“Mate, we not going to France for the croissants.”

The second advert follows a similar premise and also features Wallabies legend Mark Ella alongside Jones.

The Wallabies boss is in a barbershop, getting a haircut, and the barber lists off all the competitors for the Rugby World Cup.

When asked if Australia can win the whole thing, Jones responds, “Mate, we’re not going to France for the croissants.”

Rugby Australia CEO Phil Waugh said that they wanted to create something that sums up the country’s personality and ability to face adversity.

“The Wallabies are being written off for the World Cup… That means nothing to Australians,” he said. “If anything, it adds fuel to the fire, and I am sure Eddie and the team are laser-focused on the job at hand.

“They are humorous spots that we hope will have Australians buying into this mindset of ignoring the doubters, and really wanting to prove them wrong.”

Australia host New Zealand at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the first Bledisloe Cup Test of 2023 before facing the All Blacks at Forsyth Barr Stadium the following week.

They finish off their preparations for the World Cup with a warm-up match against tournament hosts France before their Pool C opener against Georgia on September 9.
