A LYMM rugby union team made up entirely of ‘dads and their lads’ won their cup tie at the weekend.

Fourteen dads teamed up with 14 of their sons to create a unique squad of players for the clash with Wallasey at Crouchley Lane – and they are checking to see if it is a world record!

The dads, who are in the twilight of their playing careers, and their lads, who are starting out playing at senior level having come through the Lymm mini and junior and colts academy, combined for Lymm Eagles – which is the rugby club’s third team.

The rugby on show was a treat to watch as Lymm beat their spirited visitors 46-24 and progressed into the next round of the NOWIRUL Cotton Traders Bowl competition.

Match organiser and one of the dads who played, Martin Henderson, was proud of all who got involved.

“It just seemed like an opportunity not to be missed,” he said.

“As dads we have all watched and supported our boys growing up playing rugby at Lymm and now we have played alongside them. Quite honestly, it has been a massive thrill for all of us!

“Also, we have been in touch with the Guinness Book of Records to see if this has ever been done before, in these numbers.

“We are sending them evidence, including this photo, the team sheet and footage of the match, and await their response.

“You never know, and we may get another chance to play together in the next round of the cup.”
