The final event in the Rose Ladies Series has been suspended “until further notice” due to a large fire.
The West course at Wentworth in Surrey was evacuated after the fire spread from Chobham Common close to the 10th hole of the famed tournament venue.
Initially it was hoped the event could be finished on Saturday morning but that will now not happen.
“Wentworth is closed tomorrow due to the severity of the ongoing fire risk,” organisers said on Friday.
“The Grand Final restart is cancelled until further notice. Most importantly, players, caddies and staff must be safe.”
England’s Alice Hewson led before the last day of the series on Friday, organised by Justin Rose and his wife Kate.
The Rose Ladies Series has been created by the Ryder Cup player in order to provide competitive action for female professionals after the Ladies European Tour was suspended in March because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The three-day grand final – with the other rounds at Rose’s home course North Hants and The Berkshire (Blue) – follows seven one-day tournaments being held in England in June and July.
It is the first time a professional ladies’ tournament has taken place on Wentworth’s revered West course.
