Ollie Partington has opened up on his Wigan exit following his two-year deal with Salford, praising Warriors head coach Matt Peet in helping with the transition.
Partington, 24, is a product of the Wigan academy system and went on to make 92 appearances for his hometown team.
While admittedly a hard decision to make to leave the side he has spent all of his career at, Partington believes both himself and the club agreed the move with the best intentions in mind.
“It was a tough decision for me and my family,” Partington told Love Rugby League.
“It was obviously sad to leave the club I’ve supported since I was a kid and played for all my career.
“But I think in life, you need changes and new challenges and new opportunities.
“I think the timing was right for the club and myself. I think I wanted to grow into a new role and I wasn’t really getting that chance at Wigan, so they were happy enough for me to get that chance and do that at Salford.”

Partington joined Wigan as a scholarship player, making his first-team debut in 2018. He also enjoyed one game as captain for the side against Hull KR last year.
The utility forward has spent the majority of his career under coach Peet, 38, who progressed through the club’s coaching ranks from scholarship level until his first-team appointment ahead of the 2022 season.
“Matt Peet was one of the coaches who brought me in at Wigan,” Partington explained. “But that helped in the conversation with him and the decision.”
“He was wanting the best for me and if there was a good enough opportunity out there, he was happy for me to take that.
“We’ve known each other a while and he wanted the best for me.
“There were no hard feelings. It was always a good relationship and while I was gutted to leave and from all my mates, it was all well thought through with both sides wanting the best for myself.”
