Injury rules England all-rounder Will Jacks out of RCB’s IPL campaign

Jacks was signed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore late last year but has since been sidelined by injury.

He played for the Pretoria Capitals in the inaugural edition of the SA20 earlier this year.

Indian all-rounder Axar Patel, meanwhile, has been named vice-captain of the Delhi Capitals.

Australian batsman David Warner recently replaced wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant as Delhi captain. Pant is currently recovering from injuries sustained during a motor vehicle accident.

“Rishabh has been a terrific leader for Delhi Capitals, and we’re all going to miss having him around,” said Warner.

“I would like to thank the management for the faith and trust they’ve always shown in me. This franchise has always been home for me, and I couldn’t be more excited to lead such a supremely talented bunch of players. I can’t wait to meet them all, and get cracking.”

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has returned to the Delhi franchise as director of cricket. He was their mentor during the 2019 IPL.

The 16th edition of the IPL, which was launched in 2008, will start in late March 2023. The Gujarat Titans are the reigning champions. The Mumbai Indians are the most successful franchise in the history of the IPL with five titles.

The Punjab Kings will be without Australian fast bowler Jhye Richardson. He, too, has been sidelined by injury.

“Injuries are a big part of cricket, that’s a fact. Frustrating? Absolutely. But I’m now in a scenario where I can get back to doing what I love and work hard to become an even better player than before. One step back, two steps forward. Let’s do this,” Richardson wrote on social media.

Punjab, like Delhi and Bangalore, remain in pursuit of a maiden IPL title.
