Matt Peet delivers fresh injury news on winger Liam Marshall

Wigan boss Matt Peet has delivered an injury update on winger Liam Marshall following their 34-6 victory over Leigh.

Marshall, 26, had featured in every game so far this season ahead of the Thursday night fixture at the Leigh Sports Village, crossing for eight tries.

His absence provided the opportunity for Lebanon international Abbas Miski to make his first appearance of the season, named as replacement.

Peet confirmed a minor injury for the England international, who could be a doubt for their upcoming derby with St Helens on Good Friday.

“He should be back in the next few weeks,” Peet explained on Marshall.

“It was a bad stud on his foot which was too swollen to stitch.

“I think we’ll see him in the next few weeks.”

Jai Field injury blow

Australian playmaker Jai Field is also a major doubt for the Round Eight clash against Paul Wellens’ St Helens next Friday.

Field crossed twice in their victory over Leigh in the Battle of the Borough before limping from the field in the latter stages of the second half.

“He’s going to need a scan,” Peet confirmed on Field.

“I would anticipate he’ll be out for a few weeks. I’m guessing, but a hamstring injury, it isn’t a quick turnaround.

“We’ll be patient.”

Half-back Cade Cust also missed the fixture against Leigh through a neck injury and is expected to be sidelined for an unconfirmed period.

“We’ll probably look at rotating some of our existing squad,” Peet continued looking ahead to next Friday’s clash against St Helens.

“Ryan Hampshire is out, Cade Cust is out. We’ll look at rotation.

“We’ll look within the lads who have already played this season, especially with it being such an intense game.

I like to think in the last season and a bit we’ve been adaptable in rotation. I know it’s a strength of ours.”
