Reds star Fraser McReight revealed it was on his bucket list to line up in Wallaby gold with old friend and teammate Harry Wilson.
The flanker further committed to plying his trade in Australia until 2025 earlier this month despite interest from abroad.
McReight is a very talented player but one that has had to patiently wait behind the great Michael Hooper in the Wallabies pecking order for several years.
Easy decision
Despite having obvious Test level credentials and not getting an extended run, the Red claims it was not a difficult decision to stay in the country.
“There wasn’t too much of a thought; some clubs were interested but this was the best place for me,” McReight told AAP.
“It was relatively easy. Home’s here, love the Reds and want to play for Australia. It’s great to have that locked away and focus on footy.”
“Bucket list” moment
Meanwhile, long-time friend Wilson does not have more than a year left on his contract, which makes him susceptible to a move abroad. However, McReight hopes his back-row partner stays in the country as the pair hope to run out for the Wallabies together.
“I want him stay; he’s one of my close mates and love playing for him but he’s got to look out for himself,” said McReight.
“We’ve played together since we were 12. It’s a cool thing as you develop, see how they thrive and go about it.
“Hopefully we can do that more and we haven’t played with each other in the gold jersey yet, so that’s something we want to tick off the bucket list.”
The flanker revealed he had spoken to Wallabies boss Eddie Jones and is looking to play hard, and the veteran coach will be clear on what he needs to improve on.
“I’ve spoken to Eddie yep, it’s going to be great for Australian rugby,” added McReight.
“He’s going to let you know what you need to work on but (in terms of the pecking order) I’m not worried about that at all.
“We’ve played three games so far … I’ll keep ripping in.”
