Hull KR have been dealt an injury blow to new recruit Yusuf Aydin, who will miss the start of the new Super League season.

The Turkey international joined the Robins on a two-year deal in the off-season from fellow Super League club Wakefield.

But Aydin will be out of action until the middle of March after he underwent surgery for a wrist ligament repair, meaning he will be unavailable for around the first month of the season.

The forward came through the ranks at Wakefield, making 25 first team appearances for the club. He also enjoyed spells on loan with Sheffield and Leeds last term.

Aydin is one of seven new players at Craven Park in 2023. Versatile forward James Batchelor has made the move from Wakefield as well.

Scotland prop Sam Luckley has arrived from Hull KR, whilst Ireland winger Louis Senior has signed from Huddersfield.

Rhys Kennedy (Brisbane), Tom Opacic (Parramatta) and Sauaso Sue (Newcastle) have all linked up with the Robins from the NRL.

Aydin has been given the number 27 jersey by head coach Willie Peters.

Hull KR loan youngster to Championship side Newcastle

Championship club Newcastle Thunder have signed young half-back Jack Potter on a one-month loan deal from Super League side Hull KR.

The playmaker joins his Hull KR team-mates Dan Okoro and Connor Moore in joining the Thunder on loan as momentum builds for the 2023 Championship campaign.

Potter was one of seven academy graduates to make the step up to Willie Peters’ first team squad for 2023.

Newcastle coach Chris Thorman said: “From what I’ve seen and who I’ve spoken to, Jack is held in pretty high regard.

“He went on Hull KR’s pre-season camp to Tenerife and I think that shows where he stands in their group.

“From our point of view, he’s playing in a position we’re looking to strengthen and improve our strength in depth.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to have a look at him and have him experience our environment.

“We’re looking forward to working with Jack and keen to get started with him.

“We’ve already had two players join on loan from Hull KR in Dan Okoro and Connor Moore; and they speak highly of Jack, so we’re expecting good things.”
