Paul Vaughan excited to get stuck into Warrington’s blockbuster three weeks

Warrington might be sitting at the top of the Super League table with a 100 per cent win record, but Paul Vaughan insists they aren’t getting carried away.

Daryl Powell’s side have enjoyed an impressive start to the season, having won all seven of their games so far.

Their latest result was a 34-6 victory over Hull in front of the Channel 4 cameras at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday.

Speaking to Channel 4 after the game, Vaughan said: “We’ve started really well. We’ve put ourselves in a really good position at the start of the season but we’re not getting carried away with ourselves.

“There is a really good feel around the club. I’ve said it a couple of times but the boys in the squad, we’ve got a really good balance and its exciting for everyone to be a part of so hopefully we can do something special.”

The Wolves have a crucial block of fixtures coming up against three of the other clubs in the top four – Catalans, Wigan and St Helens.

He added: “I think it’s nice to win those games and take a bit of joy out of that, but we can’t get ahead of ourselves too early.

“I know we’ve got a couple of tough weeks coming up, we’ve got Saints, Wigan and Dragons, so it’s going to be a really tough test.”

A seamless transition in to English life for Paul Vaughan

Vaughan, who has represented Italy and Australia on the international stage, is enjoying life in England after arriving from the NRL in the off-season.

He said: “It’s been good. I think we’ve fitted in quite seamlessly to be fair.

“We came over in November and the club has been really good with the transition and all that kind of stuff, so it has been pretty easy. My wife’s happy and the kids are happy so that’s the main thing.

“We’re playing some good footy as a club at the moment so that makes life easier as well.”

French test ahead

The Wolves start their blockbuster run against Catalans Dragons in the south of France on Saturday night.

Warrington coach Daryl Powell is expecting a real physical encounter in Perpignan this weekend.

Powell said: “Its a little bit different going over to France with the travel but I feel like we’ve got that boxed off.

“I’m just looking forward to the challenge, it’s the start of three pivotal games for us, also against Wigan and Saints, on short turnarounds so I’m just looking forward to the challenge.

“The boys are ready to go and we’re just ready to step up now, I feel like we haven’t been quite as ruthless as we need to be and we know that we’ll have to be outstanding over the next three weeks so it’s a good start for us.”
