Rugby league legend Kevin Sinfield CBE is set to visit Glasgow as part of his latest fundraising challenge for motor neurone disease (MND).
The former Leeds Rhinos captain will run in memory of his friend Rob Burrow who died from MND in June.
This will be Sinfield’s fifth annual challenge for the MND community having raised nearly £10 million in the first four events.
He and his team will complete a 50km loop around the city on December 4, starting at Ibrox at 7am.
The route will include stops at the Jimmy Johnstone statue at Celtic Park and Firhill, and will end at Scotstoun.
This year’s challenge has the tagline of Running home for Christmas as the seventh day will end in Sinfield’s home area of Saddleworth.
Members of the public can sponsor Sinfield at https://tinyurl.com/4cmyverp or by texting Kevin10 to 70143 to donate.
Jonathan Mitchell, head of fundraising at MND Scotland, said: “Kevin Sinfield is an inspiration and a hugely respected figure in the MND community in Scotland.
“What he has achieved in his last four challenges is phenomenal and we can’t wait to welcome him to Glasgow on 4 December.”
Paul Thompson, director of My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, said: “We’re in awe of Kevin.
“Doddie waved him off at Murrayfield for his 2022 challenge, while winding him up about his neon trainers.
“He would have been proud of everything Kevin continues to achieve for the MND community.”
The week-long challenge will start on December 1, with Sinfield and the team covering over 50km per day, visiting seven regions across Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Each day will be broken down into 7km blocks, in recognition of his friend and former teammate Rob Burrow, who wore the number seven during his career at Leeds Rhinos.
