Springboks wing Canan Moodie praised his team’s record away victory over Wales as they ran out 52-16 winners at the Principality Stadium on Saturday.
The flyer scored two tries in a clinical triumph and believes they can take a lot from the result ahead of their final warm-up game before the 2023 World Cup.
Facing them on Friday, August 25 will be the All Blacks at Twickenham in what should be a thrilling match, as both sides look to go into the tournament hot.
Training camp
Following that clash with their old rivals, the Springboks travel to Corsica for a week-long training camp before heading to their World Cup base in Toulon.
“I think we can take a lot of confidence from this game,” Moodie revealed after claiming the player of the match award in the victory over the Welsh in Cardiff.
“Putting up a record score against Wales at home isn’t something that happens often. It shows that our plans are working and that the guys are ready for what lies ahead mentally and physically.
“That said, there are a few things we can touch up on and we have one more game to do it before the World Cup.”
It was also a memorable game for loosehead prop Ox Nche, who played his first Test of the year after recovering from injury, and was happy with the win.
“It was a good result for us, and we got to execute what we wanted to,” he said.
“They fielded a pretty young squad, but they played well, and the ball just happened to bounce in our favour.”
He added on his comeback game: “I can take a lot of confidence from that (performance). It was hot out there, so my legs are still feeling a bit heavy, but it was good to be back and represent the country.”
Scrum dominance
South Africa dominated up front and the scrum proved to be a weapon for the visitors on Saturday, with Nche revealing the set-piece was an area they targeted.
“We did good analysis on it in the week, and it was our plan to try to use it as a foundation to play from in the game,” he said.
“It’s one of our big pillars and we put a lot of work into it, so it’s good to see things going our way.”
