Swindon St George Rugby League FC experienced a great turnout at their open evening to get people involved in wheelchair rugby league.
On Thursday 9 November at New College Sports Hall, the club hosted an open event inviting newbies and veterans to get involved and try out wheelchair rugby league.
The session involved training from coach Tony Ellis, who is involved with the England national team set-up, said: “We are seeing a huge surge in popularity of our unique form of rugby league and that is reflected in the marvellous turnout we have here tonight.”
The session began with Ellis teaching the basics, but by the end players who had never played before were involved in a practice match.
The club will be continuing their two-hour sessions from November 23 at 8 pm and will subsequently run every Thursday, for those looking to get involved.
Ellis said: “We’ve effectively relaunched our operation. We now have a new venue, containing a perfectly sprung floor, ideal for our chairs.
“Everyone and anyone are more than welcome to join us, we are all-inclusive, irrespective of age, race, level of ability or experience, men, women, boys and girls can enjoy this wonderful game, whether wheelchair users or not.”
