Blue skies and sunshine are on the way for New South Wales this long weekend with Sydney forecast to reach the high 20s on Sunday and during Monday’s public holiday.
Stephen Stefanac, a meteorologist at the Bureau of Meteorology, said Friday was looking dry for Sydney with a top of 23C, with mostly sunny weather becoming increasing cloudy later in day.
“A front will come through on Saturday bringing a few showers, with temperatures in their mid to high 20s and a bit of sunshine as well,” he said.
Beach-goers will only have the wind to worry about on Sunday and Monday, with dry, sunny conditions reaching 29C on Sunday and 27C on Monday, alongside north to north-westerly winds.
It’s good news for NRL and NRLW fans, with about 80,000 expected to flock to Sydney Olympic Park for the women’s and men’s grand finals on Sunday afternoon.
NSW, Queensland, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory will be celebrating Labour Day or the king’s birthday public holiday on Monday.
Stefanac said there would be “plenty of opportunity to see clear skies and sunshine” for states and territories enjoying a long weekend.
“It’s looking pretty dry and sunny almost everywhere, with showers on Friday and Saturday clearing for the remainder of the weekend,” he said.
The rest of NSW is forecast to experience a few showers early in the weekend, with fresh north and north-westerly winds.

“The main thing to watch out for is a front coming through on Friday in western and southern NSW, with showers and possible storms, which will sweep through Sydney on Saturday and move out to sea for remainder of weekend,” Stefanac said.
“There will be some ongoing showers along the southern ranges and adjacent western slopes on Sunday and Monday but the remainder of the state will be dry with moderate to fresh gusty winds.”
For Queensland, Stefanac said most of the long weekend was looking nice and sunny, with a front coming through that may see a “few showers” in the south of the state on Friday and Saturday.
Brisbane will reach a maximum of 32C on Monday after a weekend of high 20s and early 30s, with mostly sunny skies and light winds.
Canberra will climb to a maximum of 20C, enjoying a mostly sunny day with winds of 25km/h to 35km/h.
“We’ll see a few showers on Saturday like in Sydney with a front coming through, then the remainder of the weekend should be mostly dry and sunny,” Stefanac said.
“Greater ACT might see a few showers along the western border but Canberra itself should be dry.”
Adelaide has a medium chance of showers on Monday, reaching a maximum of 20C with partly cloudy conditions and winds between 15km/h and 20km/h.
