Warrington Rugby Union Club under 15s reach Lancashire Cup Final

They defeated Heaton Moor 38-17 in the semi-final at Bridge Lane, Appleton.

With both teams undefeated in the group stages it was clear that this would be a tough encounter and it didn’t disappoint.

The visitors had possession for much of the early exchanges and with intense, defensive line-speed pressure, the intent from the home team was evident from the start.

Heaton Moor were first on the scoresheet, though, with an interception try.

Warrington then tested the Heaton Moor defence with some sustained pressure, going through multiple phases with the pack beginning to get on the front foot.

Eventually following some good carries from prop Jadeon Swanepoel, second-row Archie Turriff and hooker McKenzie Morris a quick ball from Freddie Hartill put Paddy Shephard through a gap and the centre was in the clear to score.

Five minutes later Shephard combined with his winger Ty Swinton to score his second.

And then flanker Mikey Craven picked up an inside ball from Jack Pendlebury to break the line with great footwork to race half the pitch to touch down in the corner.

At the start of the second half came the try of the game as prop Fin Hill broke through from inside his own half, evading defenders all the way to the try line.

Heaton Moor then showed their resilience to score two tries either side of Warrington’s flanker Ollie Orgill going over and Shephard completes his hat-trick.

Conversions were added by Jack Pendlebury.

Coach Iain Pybus was pleased with the team’s attitude and said: “We turned up with a defensive mindset.

“Heaton Moor are a very good side with a strong pack but our defence gave them no time on the ball from which we were able to build.

“Our attack structure, especially in the first half, was particularly strong. Fast rucks with fast hands to our fast players on the edges and bodies in motion.”

The final is on April 28 at Leigh RUFC.
